چکیده

Various methods have been developed to measure three-dimensional (3D) objects and obtain a highaccuracy Digital Surface Model (DSM). High-quality elevation data is essential to support urban planning and civil engineering, however, effective measuring of height information is still challenging. The aim of this paper is to present an accuracy assessment of laser scanned data and the enhancement of the 3D representation of artificial objects such as buildings. Firstly, edges of buildings were extracted from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data. Secondly, aerial ortho-imagery is draped over this simplified 3D model. Thirdly, digital photos of each side of walls were patched in order to obtain photo-realistic rendering of buildings. The comparison between the height information of the resultant DSM and that of GPS measurements shows that the root mean squared error of the DSM is less than 12 centimeters.

Accuracy of 3d Models Derived from Aerial Laser Scanning and Aerial Ortho-imagery

Three dimensional (3D) mapping has been used widely in the spatial industry as a powerful technique for rendering artificial objects and their surrounding topography. However, an accurate and effective 3D modelling of complex features e.g. feature rich buildings and trees, is still challenging. The aim of this study is to develop an efficient framework to obtain a high-accuracy 3D model of urba...

A New Approach for Realistic 3D Reconstruction of Planar Surfaces from Laser Scanning Data and Imagery Collected Onboard Modern Low-Cost Aerial Mapping Systems

Over the past few years, accurate 3D surface reconstruction using remotely-sensed data has been recognized as a prerequisite for different mapping, modelling, and monitoring applications. To fulfill the needs of these applications, necessary data are generally collected using various digital imaging systems. Among them, laser scanners have been acknowledged as a fast, accurate, and flexible tec...

Fusing Airborne Laser Scanner Data and Aerial Imagery for the Automatic Extraction of Buildings in Densely Built-up Areas

Using airborne laser scanner data, buildings can be detected automatically, and their roof shapes can be reconstructed. The success rate of building detection and the level of detail of the resulting building models depend on the resolution of the laser scanner data, which is still lower than the resolution of aerial imagery. Building extraction from aerial images alone is difficult because of ...

Application of Remote Sensing and GIS Methods for the Automatic Extraction of Single Trees Based on Digital Aerial Images and Elevation Models

The paper gives a short overview about the existing data base and extraction methods for single tree detection. Forest remote sensing has a long tradition and a variety of methods for single tree extraction have already been developed. Most studies and methods focus either on the analysis of satellite images or airborne laser data and on the extraction of coniferous trees. The automatic detecti...

Generation of Coarse 3d Models of Urban Areas from High Resolution Stereo Satellite Images

With the emergence of more and more satellites delivering very high resolution (VHR) imagery with ground sampling distances in the range of one meter or below the generation of three dimensional urban models directly from space may become possible. Such models are required for many applications in areas where no up-to-date detailed urban mapping exists like in developing countries. Besides the ...
